Overview
Pelvic physical therapy often reaches a plateau when care remains limited to isolated contractions like Kegels and . This course, Beyond Kegels: Elevating Pelvic Health with Functional Exercises, presented by Surabhi Veitch of The Passionate Physio, provides a clinical framework for transitioning patients toward full body, functional strength. The curriculum addresses the disconnect between clinical research protocols and real world patient needs, emphasizing that pelvic health is musculoskeletal health. By incorporating dynamic movements such as squats, lunges, and carries, practitioners can help patients achieve the strength required for daily activities while improving long-term retention and quality of life.
Learning Objectives
In this online course, Surabhi Veitch will teach you to:
- Identify necessary functional exercises to incorporate into standard clinical care.
- Articulate the clinical reasoning for including whole body movements, even for non athletes.
- Apply strategies to modify functional movements based on individual abilities and symptoms such as prolapse, pain, or incontinence.
- Adapt exercise progressions specifically for the pregnancy and postpartum populations.
Audience
This course is designed for pelvic health physiotherapists, orthopaedic manual therapists, and rehabilitation professionals. It is particularly valuable for practitioners who struggle to progress patients beyond basic rehab exercises.
Why This Course Matters
Research indicates that more than one third of women are not confident in their ability to perform a pelvic floor contraction correctly. Furthermore, clients frequently self discharge when they become bored with repetitive, non functional exercises that do not yield visible results. This course bridges that gap by demonstrating that strengthening the pelvic floor alongside synergist muscles, such as the hips and transversus abdominis, is more effective at treating symptoms like urinary leakage and improving overall quality of life.
